Swodist: A Refined Script for Real Brand Work
Practical Designer Notes (From My Studio Bench)
- Always test in black and white first. Swodist’s charm lives in contrast—color can mask spacing issues or weak stroke definition.
- Check small-size readability on real mockups, not just screen previews. I print at 100% scale and hold it at arm’s length—Swodist loses clarity below 18pt in body applications.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase usage. The capitals are elegant but less distinctive; lean into lowercase for warmth and flow, capitals for impact in short headlines.
- Review spacing meticulously. Default tracking often needs tightening for logos, loosening for quotes. Kern pairs like “To”, “We”, and “Th” benefit from manual adjustment.
- Test beside key type families: a serif font (e.g., Playfair Display), sans serif font (e.g., Montserrat), another script font (to avoid redundancy), and a clean handwritten font (to clarify Swodist’s more refined stance).
- Confirm commercial licensing before any client handoff. Script Amp’s license covers digital products and merchandise, but double-check territory restrictions and volume limits if scaling beyond single-brand use.
